Gina Barrera, PA, is a physician assistant specializing in geriatric care. She believes every patient deserves respect, feels heard and involved in their care, and leaves each visit confident about the plan created together.
PA Barrera pursued medicine because of her passion for patient education and helping people navigate their health care journey. After working as a pharmacy technician and pharmacy manager, she recognized a gap between the doctor’s office and the pharmacy and felt her background could help bridge it. She chose geriatrics because it focuses on treating and preventing disease while helping patients maintain their independence, function and quality of life. Her favorite part of the job is meeting new patients, building relationships rooted in trust and caring for the whole person.
PA Barrera earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth and is board-certified by the NCCPA. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, she continues to call the area home. Her clinical interests include musculoskeletal conditions and joint injections, preventive care and women’s health. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family, crafts, puzzles, reading and relaxing at the beach or on the water.
