Biography

David Ortiz, MD is a first-generation physician. He completed medical school and residency at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He approaches patient care knowing that numbers only tell part of the story – the health of the mind, body and spirit matters a great deal as well.

Growing up, Dr. Ortiz was motivated to have a better understanding of the human body and a mentor encouraged him to pursue medicine. He chose family practice because it allows him to have a multigenerational impact on health, affecting patients and their families as well. He was drawn to the potential to be able to guide patients from the womb all the way to the end of life. His favorite part of his job is witnessing patients go from guarded in affect to full of smiles because of their improved quality of life.

Dr. Ortiz was born and raised in Weslaco, Texas. In his free time, he enjoys reading, disc golf, camping, hunting and spending time with his son. Clinically, he is particularly interested in helping patients manage diabetes, heart disease, mental health, and chronic pain. He would like patients to know that he grew up and trained in the RGV, and he now considers it an honor to give back to this community as much as possible.
