Bareera Akhtar, MD

Bareera Akhtar, MD, attended Dow University of Health Sciences, earning her medical degree in 2017. She then completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Knapp Medical Center in 2024 before joining Kelsey-Seybold as an Internal Medicine hospitalist in August 2024.
Growing up, Dr. Akhtar spent a lot of time with her uncle, who was bedbound and often hospitalized due to a life-changing accident. The experience inspired her to pursue medicine so she could help others in similar situations. As an Internal Medicine hospitalist, Dr. Akhtar cares for adult patients in the hospital setting for a variety of conditions and symptoms. She serves as a medical detective, analyzing clues to diagnose and treat complex illnesses for hospitalized patients. Her clinical interests include hospital medicine, evidence-based medicine, and preventive medicine. Dr. Akhtar enjoys putting her knowledge into action and seeing her patients get better, believing that is the most rewarding part of practicing medicine.
