With the exception of this most recent visit PA Smith has been great. However this last visit he did not ask many questions about the two issues I had. This was a 6 month check in and renewal of meds, but I did have other issues which reoccur occasionally. Most likely he thought we didn't need to talk but I expected better of him. I was disappointed.

Dillion, is one of a very few excellent care givers I have been blessed to have care for me in my [omitted]. He is always warm & welcoming , he is NEVER rushed in our visit, and always follow ups on issues we addressed in the prior visit. He is very knowledgeable & through. Recently I was given a drug for a temporary condition, which made me very nauseous, I called the office after hours to get help, although he was NOT the provider on call, within just a few minutes, Dillion called me back. Although one of the common side effects o0f the drug is nausea , Dillion apologized & admitted it was his fault that I felt ill.. which of course, isn't true, no one could predict which patient will or will not have a (minor) side effect to a drug . Poor man had to listen to me wretch all through our phone call. Luckily I had a drug for nausea already & he said just double the dose. Dillion has the rare ability to be extremely knowledgeable in his field and at the same time to have an excellent bed side manner. This is just the person he is, & regardless of what career he would have chosen , his warm , caring & patient nature will always shine through. It is unfortunate that more care givers are not like him.

I was having trouble with my cholesterol and a poor score on a cardiac calcium scan. Andrew Smith recommended that I read a book about improving diet for longevity, specifically to eat a mostly plant-based diet. I followed the advice in the book and it lowered my cholesterol, my blood pressure and my weight. Following that advice made a significant improvement in my cardiac health and probably lengthened my lifespan. In my last visit, I thought I had arthritis in my shoulder, but he diagnosed that it was actually a muscle spasm, and gave me a combination of steroid and muscle relaxant as well as some stretching exercises to do, and it relieved my pain. I'm very happy with having him as my PCP.

When my visit with Andrew Smith occurred, it was due to the increasing amount of migraines that I was experiencing weekly...going from one, maybe two, every few months (or longer) to almost 2-3 every week. I also took notice of when they began to become more frequent along other things that I was experiencing that started at that same time and expressed this to Andrew. I did not know whether the issues were related but thought the information would be needed in case they were. I also felt that something had clearly changed. After giving him all that information and that it was unusual for me to get that many migraines in a week or a month, he seemed to disregard everything that I told him and did not acknowledge that the issues that I was experiencing were even valid. Andrew looked at my weight and proceeded to ask me what my water intake was and what my activity level was. Once I told him he was confident that the increase in migraines was due to my lack of water intake (stated I was dehydrated) and that I needed to increase my activity level to be a little more intense. He did not ask me whether there was a recent change in my water intake, which there has not been for years, so I imagine that if this were the issue I would have experienced more frequent migraines a lot sooner than now. My activity level has increased, more than the norm, due to adopting two dogs but he said that the exercise needed to be more intense. If I were to trust this would solve the issue, I believe I would be popping pills and running out of migraine meds before I am able to refill the next month. Insurance only allows 10 pills per month. After the visit with Andrew, I went home to process what he had said and felt that he did not listen or hear anything that I had told him about my history. I felt that he did not take the time to go over things with me and explain why they might or might not be the issue. I felt invalidated, unheard, and that he did not take into consideration anything, concerning my health, other than that I did not take in as much water as it says I should, on paper, and that he knew that was the cause of the frequent migraines. I have never experienced such arrogance and inconsiderateness in a visit before that and I was unsure how to proceed. I finally realized that I needed to get a second opinion and felt horrible for having to do so. I felt maybe what I was experiencing was all in my head, literally and figuratively. I felt that if this is how he treats other patients that may have an even more dire situation than mine, it could result in a horrible misdiagnosis and then what? I would hate for any other patient to suffer because of his inability to see the whole picture and put the puzzle pieces together for each unique individual's case. I felt he gave me a text book answer instead of looking into the matter a little more closely. I would like it in my file that I request to never be seen by him again.
