Very sweet & conversational. When I asked about having labs done she said she saw the ones from last year & wasn't worried about my levels. I explained to her that I desired them done because I wasn’t happy with my LDL. If I would’ve went with her first statement & not pressed for labs I would’ve never known that my levels have increased AND now my liver enzymes are elevated.

Sheeja Tharappel, NP was professional and very caring. She was very clear in explaining all my test and blood work. She was concerned and referred me to my cardiologist for a follow-up. If I can't see Dr. Nina, I feel that I am in good hands with her.

I was informed that I needed to schedule an appointment before refilling my prescriptions for Valsartan and Adderall. At the appointment, my vitals were checked, and I was asked if I had fasted, which I hadn’t since it wasn’t requested. After waiting in the exam room for an hour, someone came in and asked me to sign a drug screening consent form. I had already signed one before, but I agreed without much thought. *Dr. Sheeja came in about 10 minutes after and informed me that I needed to get blood work done because my BP was elevated (150). I immediately checked my work calendar and offered to come back in two weeks for the test, but she insisted that I needed to do it asap, withholding my meds until it was completed. She again asked if I had fasted and I had the same answer. She proceeded to tell me that my current blood pressure medication wasn’t effective, stating she wouldn’t continue prescribing it until blood work, which felt strange since my blood pressure had been as high as 206 before starting the medication. This felt negligent. I didn’t think to mention that my blood pressure typically rises in clinical settings (down to 132 the following day). Also I mentioned I just started my cycle that day and was experiencing bad cramps (may have been a contributing factor). *My main frustration was that I wasn’t informed in advance that I’d needed blood work. A quick phone call could have saved me the time, as I would have used my day off to take care of it. Given that the assistant asked if I had fasted, it seemed like the need for lab work had already been determined. I expressed my irritation to another nurse, who assured me that in the future, they would inform me over the phone when fasting is required. *A week later, I reviewed the blood work form, and I noticed it included a drug screening. This is when I started to reflect on my visit, so I checked my visit summary online, and I found additional notes from Dr. Sheeja stating that I needed a drug screening and had declined due to a “fear of needles”. This was untrue. I briefly mentioned my (documented) low tolerance for pain casually, but it was never an excuse to decline testing and could not possibly been perceived that way. In fact, I didn’t even know she intended to test me for drugs, as she only mentioned needing blood work due to my BP; me not fasting was the ONLY reason they didn’t draw blood. Looking back, I feel I may have misinterpreted the entire visit. At the time, I was more focused on the lack of communication, but now I wonder if there was more being implied. *Additionally, I found Dr. Sheeja’s approach very abrupt, which was unsettling compared to the typically warm, thorough interactions I’ve had with Dr. Ninan. This visit left me feeling uneasy and confused. Lastly, a BP log was not given as stated in my summary, but it definitely would’ve been beneficial.
