Karine DeSouza, MD

Karine DeSouza, MD, completed medical school at St George's University of London and residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her care philosophy involves listening more than talking, as she wants her patients to know they’re being heard.

Dr. DeSouza pursued a career in medicine because she wanted to help people and serve her community. She grew up noticing family members feel neglected and misunderstood by their providers. This motivated her to become a physician who cared for others and listened to their concerns. Dr. DeSouza enjoys working in primary care because it allows her to form long-term patient relationships. Her favorite part of her job is getting to interact with and know her patients on a personal level.

Dr. DeSouza was born in Curitiba, Brazil, and raised in New Port Richey, FL. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and pets, traveling as much as possible, going to the movies, reading and playing video games. Clinically, she is particularly interested in helping patients manage behavioral health conditions, heart disease and musculoskeletal conditions. She also believes in the importance of preventive health. She is board-certified by ABFM.
