Shailen Mhapsekar, MD

Shailen Mhapsekar, MD, believes family and friends play an important role in one’s health. Family medicine is his specialty, which allows him to listen to and interact with patients and their families when diagnosing and treating illnesses.

Dr. Mhapsekar was born in India and raised in Canada. He was first exposed to health care when his father underwent open heart surgery. That particular experience inspired him to pursue a medical career, especially after he realized that his father’s doctors played an instrumental role in his recovery.

Diabetes, geriatrics and obesity are Dr. Mhapsekar’s top clinical interests. His favorite aspect of serving as a medical doctor is motivating his patients to understand their illnesses and helping them implement the right lifestyle changes. 
Dr. Mhapsekar lives in El Paso, where he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son. Hiking, attending movie festivals, shopping at farmer’s markets and trying new restaurants are some of his many favorite activities.
