With the departure of Dr. Chavda, I was assigned to Dr. Kevin Shih. I liked and enjoyed Dr. Shih demeanor, interest in my welfare and his professionalism. He had me do my labs after my Wellness Appointment with him, as Dr. Chavda always did. However, under Dr. Chavda, I was accustomed to receiving a copy of my labs in MyChart within 24 hours with his annotations and recommendations, accordingly on anything that I needed to give focus and attention to. When I hadn't received a copy of my labs after 48 hours, I followed up with Dr. Shih and found out he was on vacation for two weeks. Rather than wait for his return from his two-week vacation, I requested a review of my labs from whomever was covering for him while he was out. I received a voicemail from whomever was backing him up with her assessment of my labs. I preferred the way Dr. Chavda did it previously by providing his recommendations and annotations on my lab results in MyChart.

Kevin made it very clear that I would be seeing him for only this one time and that he just wanted to rush through the appointment and get it over with as fast as humanly possible. When I tried to ask him about testing I could have done to detect cancers, because my relative had recently died 8 weeks after first being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he literally refused to advise me as to which of the various test he mentioned was most effective. He stated flatly "If I recommend one and you don't like it because it's expensive you'll just come back at me". I've never in [omitted] years had such a poor and absolutely uncaring experience with a doctor.

When I needed a new doctor, I could schedule an in-person visit within a reasonable time. Dr. Shih was attentive and responded to my need to quickly replace a medication that was no longer covered by my Medicare coverage. As soon as the medication, which required a new procedure for use, arrived, I was able to schedule a same-day appointment to learn the new procedure and begin immediate use of the new medication.

My prior PCP was no longer available, so I needed to designate a new PCP. Understandably there is always a level of nervousness in the first visit. Dr. Shih’s greeting and genuine interest in my health was genuine. He was very thorough in covering my lab work and health history. He praised me for my fitness routine and encouraged continuation, along with careful dieting, to decrease pre-diabetes numbers. He’s given me a renewed motivation to strive for that goal.

Dr. Kevin Shih maybe a great doctor by education. He thinks he knows all. No "bedside manner: He does not want to listen from the "patient" point view. Recently I went to see, I was explaining the how these drugs are affecting me. He cut me off in the middle of sentence, and TOLD me take those. The worst DOCTOR.
