Biography

Growing up I had several role models, including my dad, uncle and brother, who worked in the medical field. Even still, coming from a family of doctors wasn't what called me to become a doctor myself. Instead, it was the purpose I found in helping those who are sick and hurt. To have the power to help care for someone unable to care for themselves and to help bring them to a place of healing gives me a sense of fulfillment.
I attended the University of North Texas where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science. Since I was already itching to get experience in the medical field, I spent the summer before medical school working as an orderly at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. After the summer came to an end, I moved to San Antonio for medical school at the University of Texas San Antonio. After graduation, I picked up and moved to Houston to complete the rest of my medical training at Baylor Family Medicine.
Before joining USMD I've had the opportunity to care for patients for more than 30 years. I've also served in various leadership positions. These positions vary from Vice Chief of Family Practice at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth, to chairman then vice president, and even president at Tarrant County Academy of Family Physicians. Despite my full career, the part that brings me back day after day is the long-term relationships I have with my patients. Family practice allows me to serve multigenerational families, and in some cases extended family members. My approach to patient care can be summed up into two quotes, 'a cheerful heart is good medicine' and, 'do unto others and you would have them do unto you.'
My wife, Julie, and I have been married for 36 years. We have three sons and a great-nephew that we help raise. We are also the primary caregivers for my mother who keeps us on our toes. We have two grandsons, who know me better as 'Pop.' In my free time, I enjoy photography, especially any opportunity to take pictures of the kids playing sports. I also love to being outdoors, flying my drone and watching the history channel.
